Latest Gulf Study
Another WhitewashThe conclusions of the Pentagon's latest Gulf study issued on December 20 was "exactly the kind of whitewash we were expecting." Pat Eddington of the National Gulf War Center expressed no surprise. One of the board's seven members, an immunologist Dr. Vinn Cam wrote in her three page dissent:
"...the board-largely retired military brass-lacked independence from the Pentagon office it was overseeing, the Office of the Special Assistant for Gulf War Illness (OSAGWI)."She also said that the board "had no authority to suggest that stress be studied further as a possibility cause. At times the board acted more like an extension of OSAGWI." [Above article based on The Boston Globe December 21, 2000, p. A3 article: "Panel says Pentagon didn't cover up Gulf Ills," Pauline Jelanek, Associated Press].
