Comment on 20/20 Program

24 Nov 99

On 24 Nov 99, I had occassion to watch the ABC program 20/20 regarding compensation for veterans who suffer from PTSD and faulty claims. The program was somewhat misleading because at no time during the program was the U.S. Armed Services Center for Unit Records Research (CURR) mentioned. CURR verifies the incidents that veterans say caused their PTSD.

This is important because I 'm routinely told by veterans that have contacted CURR that their cases are taking far too long. The CURR has told some of them that the waiting period is now more than 9 months. This is not acceptable and should not be tolerated. I recommend that 20/20 contact CURR at (703) 806-7846 and talk to them about how they verify veterans' stressors for the VA. They need to get all of the facts. As it now sits, the story was only partially told.
